The Bettye Washington Greene Endowed Memorial Lecture Series was established to honor the legacy of Bettye Washington Greene, an alumna of the Wayne State University Department of Chemistry and a leader in the field of polymer chemistry. Dr. Washington Greene was the first African American woman with a Ph.D. in chemistry to be hired by Dow Chemical Company, where she had a long and successful career. The Bettye Washington Greene Endowed Memorial Lecture Series will provide Wayne State students with the ability to learn about a wide variety of career and research opportunities. The annual lecture will also enable students to network with successful professionals in research-based fields.
