42nd annual Charter Night recognizes university's highest donors

Wayne State University hosted its 42nd annual Charter Night to recognize new and upgraded members of the Anthony Wayne Society, the university's highest donor recognition group. The event welcomed 321 guests to celebrate 280 new and upgraded individuals, corporations and foundations at giving levels from $10,000 to $24,999 to $5,000,000 to $9,999,999.

Wayne State University students highlighted the event. Sydney Machesky, a junior theatre and public relations student in the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts, served as the emcee. Student performers offered classical and jazz musical entertainment and student ambassadors helped to greet and guide guests throughout the evening. College of Nursing senior student Lauren Varley spoke at the Honoree Reception, and College of Engineering senior student Richard Winfrey spoke during the main program. Winfrey, a recipient of the Crossing the Finish Line Scholarship, established by the Mandell and Madeleine Berman Foundation, expressed his gratitude for the support he has received. "Thank you Wayne State for helping me become who I am today," he said. "Let's continue to Aim Higher together."
