Giving for her granddaughter
Rainelle Mallory-Eubanks started working at Wayne State in 1997 and joined the Division of Development and Alumni Affairs in 2005. Wayne State is important to her for many reasons. "I enjoy my work," says Rainelle. "I take pride in what we do, and I've seen firsthand how the university's programs can transform people."
One such program - the College of Education's GO-GIRL program - impacted Rainelle's family personally and inspired her to make a gift to Wayne State. The program's mission is to increase the competence and confidence of adolescent girls by engaging them in experiences related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
In 2005, Rainelle's granddaughter Brianna went through the GO-GIRL program as a seventh grader. Rainelle saw a change in Brianna almost immediately. Brianna spoke about math and science with enthusiasm and excitement. "She went into the program a little girl and came out a young lady," Rainelle says. "It was incredible. I made my first gift to Wayne State to support the program that year."
Since then, Rainelle has continued her annual support of the GO-GIRL program and Brianna's younger sister has also gone through the program with similar effect. Brianna and Lauren are in college now, and Rainelle remains deeply involved with GO-GIRL. "I love knowing that my money is being put to good use and helps to change the lives of the girls who participate now," she says. Rainelle attends the GO-GIRL reunions, talks with past participants, and sees positivity and confidence in each of them.
Rainelle's story captures the spirit of the FY2017 Faculty/Staff Giving Campaign, Inspire from Within, which recognizes gifts made to Wayne State from faculty and staff between October 1, 2016 - September 30, 2017.
During this season of giving, will you please join Rainelle by making a gift to an area of the university that inspires you? Every gift to every area of the university counts.
