Digital Philanthropy Center

The Digital Philanthropy Center (DPC) is a community of student officers reaching out to connect with alumni and friends of Wayne State University to help support areas on campus that mean the most to our Warrior community. The DPC has supported the Wayne State community with part-time student fundraising jobs and philanthropic education for over 20 years. Our student philanthropy officers connect with alumni, faculty, staff, parents and friends through phone calls, emails and text messaging to share the latest happenings on campus and help them give back to areas of campus they are passionate about.

Our focus

Students are empowered to fundraise for gifts each year for scholarships, research, programs, athletics, the Alumni Association, and each of our schools and colleges. A staff of around 20 students reaches out to our vast Warrior network to keep them connected with Wayne State. They also call current donors to thank them for gifts, send reminders about important days on campus, and invite alumni to events.

Our mission is threefold:

1. Collect updated contact information from our Warrior community.
2. Share information about campus and academic programs, as well as today's student experience.
3. Increase engagement and participation from the alumni, parents and friends of Wayne State.

The DPC is more than just a fundraising program. Our student philanthropy officers receive professional development and support the pursuit of excellence that characterizes Wayne State.

If you prefer not to be contacted from the DPC, please email the Office of Donor Experience. For questions about the DPC, please email Marlin (MJ) Gutierrez McCoy, Digital Philanthropy Center manager. We still appreciate your support, and you are welcome to give ONLINE!

FAQ

  • Who am I speaking to during my call?
    • Each semester Wayne State students are interviewed, hired and trained to work at the DPC. These students are currently studying in a wide array of disciplines and involved in many different campus and community activities.
  • How long will my call last?
    • Most of our calls last an average of five minutes, but it's all based upon your availability. Our student philanthropy officers would love to hear stories about your time as a student, your current career and any education or career advice you can provide them! However, if you are tight on time when the student calls, let them know and they will be considerate of your time constraints.
  • When should I expect a call?
    • Alumni, faculty, staff, parents and friends may be contacted up to two times per year by a student caller. The call center operates Monday through Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2:00 to 7 p.m. EST.
  • Where is my gift designated?
    • Student callers are happy to designate your gift for all areas of the university. Primary fundraising initiatives surround student scholarships and academic programs.
  • Why am I asked for my credit card information over the phone?
    • Donations given via credit card are extremely helpful for Wayne State! These donations save time by removing the need to mail in your donation. They also help save money on postage, allowing us to enhance the university in other ways.
    • For security purposes, credit card information is protected and never saved; therefore, you will be asked for your credit card information every time you give a donation. Help us go green by joining the others who give by credit cards!
  • Is my donation tax-deductible?
    • All donations made to Wayne State are tax-deductible. With every donation, our alumni, parents and friends receive a postal thank you letter along with the tax-deductible receipt.
